Goldstem

oldstem is a type of flower found all over Itsumo. The flower is named for the golden hue of its small central stem, and its yellow petals. Goldstem draws its color from sunlight, so samples growing in shaded areas will appear more faded and white. Goldstem does not commonly grow in these dim areas, however, so flowers with a white color can be sold for relatively high prices due to their rarity. The stem always remains golden, making it possible to identify these rare specimens with white petals.

 

     Goldstem is not harmful to eat, but does not offer any advantages to those who choose to consume it. The whiter varieties of Goldstem hold slight alchemic power for resisting cold, but much more efficient alternatives mean that Goldstem itself is rarely used in actual alchemy. This flower is also commonly grown in household gardens or city planters, as its small root structure is easily contained, and it requires less water than the average flower.

     It is believed that Goldstem first grew in the deserts of the Arredus Plains, giving it its yellow color, and eventually spread over the rest of the mainland. Despite the hot conditions of the Arredus region, the plant is not especially resistant to the fire element, but rather to cold. The reason for this adaption is currently unknown, and is popular subject of research for experienced alchemists wishing to study and learn more about the world.
