Cliffgold

liffgold is a species of fern mostly found in dry areas and wide open spaces. The fern is identified by its yellowish hue and slightly smaller size than most other ferns. The larger samples of Cliffgold are the ones that contain useful magical properties. Cliffgold has a high resistance to heat and as such can be used to resist fire elemental magic. Given the fern's sometimes harsh preferred climate, many alchemists based in cities with little field experience are willing to pay a decent amount of gold to have it collected. Because of this it is commonly used as a source of work and small income for many up and coming adventurers.

Large quantities of Cliffgold can be found in the northern region of the Arredus Plains, around the outskirts of Kadome. Because of this, Cliffgold is widely used by Kadomian smiths, giving almost all armor produced in the area a slight resistance to fire. A common test of the concentration within a piece of Cliffgold infused armor is to count the number of candles that can be placed under the armor before the material begins to glow white, as Cliffgold plants do when they are about to die. Kadomian merchants will often brag that their armor can resist upwards of a hundred flames. The most concentrated Cliffgold based material ever created was ranked at six hundred and twenty four flames, though due to the large number, the candles were simulated by a large magical flame summoned by the alchemist who infused the armor. This alternate method of heating the armor caused much skepticism about the record, many people saying that the alchemist's flame was colder than what he claimed.
