Mercallow Root

ercallow Root is a tangled root that grows out of the sides of cliffs and between rocks. Mercallow Root is a stringy plant that is often used to be woven into strong rope. The root grows both from the ceilings of caves and up from rocky floors. The best rope material is the roof mounted Mercallow, as it becomes stronger by hanging downwards. On the ground of some caves, Mercallow Root grows upwards in small patches, creating an entirely different appearance for itself. This kind is usually the kind that is harvested for alchemy, seeing as it is much easier to reach.

Mercallow Root cannot be eaten because its skin is actually too tough to be torn by human teeth. It can be used in alchemy however, and it provides a defensive boost. The root has had many past uses, from being used in weaving to tying off limbs with deep wounds. Mercallow bandages are still used today, and are a common choice for adventurers travelling without a mage who is capable of using recovery magic.

In some places Mercallow Root will spread much more easily over the surface of rocks, and it can actually cover entire walls of caves, creating an impressive blanket of roots that has no visible beginning or end. In these areas it is easy for explorers to lose their footing by catching a shoe in a tangled pile of roots, and sometimes this makes travel through almost impossible.
