Eldwort

ldwort is a very common type of fern found all over the world of Itsumo. Most samples of Eldwort have no alchemic properties and are generally not useful to adventurers, but some slightly rarer samples have regenerative properties. These alchemically active types are called Potent Eldwort, and are most commonly found in forests, as they draw their advanced attributes from the energies of the surrounding trees. Because of this, Potent Eldwort from areas with different trees will provide slightly different effects.

 

     Eldwort is found in great abundance in the forests surrounding Havedell and in the Lake Cylra region. Not only is the Eldwort of that area the most potent in the world, but the other plant life in the area spreads its magical influence, giving the ferns not only stronger regenerative properties, but a resistance to other magical effects, which can be alchemically transferred into a more practical material for use with armor.

 

     It is easy to confuse Eldwort with another species of fern known as Cliffgold, which has a similar shape. The key differences between the two are that Cliffgold has a more yellow hue, and tends to grow in drier areas, while Eldwort prefers lush forests and grasslands. Given the differences in their preferred climates, Eldwort and Cliffgold have very different alchemic properties, and should be properly identified before being used in any mixture to avoid unwanted, unexpected, and potentially dangerous reactions.
